As you can see in the photo above, there is a major difference between their leaf shapes:
The Christmas cactus (here on the left) is distinguished by leaves with several pointed edges , similar to small teeth. On the other hand, the Easter cactus (here on the right) has leaves with rounded edges , sometimes slightly darker. This divergence in leaf shape provides a visual way to differentiate these two cactus varieties.
Another obvious distinction between the two types of cacti is their flowering time. The Christmas cactus ( Schlumbergera ) offers remarkable blooms during the Christmas period, creating a natural association with this holiday. In contrast, the Easter cactus ( Rhipsalidopsis ) characteristically unfurls its flowers as the Easter celebration approaches.
This seasonal difference offers a distinct visual and temporal feature between the holiday cacti.
