The intermediate Araceae mixture is a mixture composed by Jungle Eden (a French YouTuber living on Reunion Island and owning more than 2000 plants) perfectly suited to several types of plants of tropical origins, including of course the araceae. It initially allows to prepare the cuttings or the sphagnum cultures to pass to the compost gently, hence its name "intermediate". It is an effective mixture which can however be used as a definitive substrate if your plant likes it. In this article, I take again for you as for me the instructions given by Jungle Eden in her video on the subject.
This mixture is composed of : 25% potting soil (of excellent quality, preferably organic), 25% sphagnum moss, 40% coconut bark (thickness between 10 and 20 mm) and 10% perlite (20% if your climate is rather temperate / cool).
According to her research, coconut bark retains nitrogen much more effectively than pine bark.
It may be suitable for : philodendron, ficus, aglaonema, syngonium, pothos (epipremnum and scindapsus), monstera, alocasia, maranta, calathea, pilea (in terracotta pot), hoya, epiphytic cactus (in terracotta pot), chlorophytum, some tradescantia such as zebrina, but not nanouk.
Not recommended for plants that behave like succulents, like sansevieria.
Be careful, however, for the "jewels" alocasia : dragon scale or silver dragon ; they need a lot of drainage, more bark, and very tight pots.
